Classroom Tips

👏 Echo

You clap and say 4 beats; the class echoes. Keep a steady beat with your foot or the generator.

👀 Read

Project a pattern. Say it in syllables first, then clap it. Rests: open hands, no sound.

🛠️ Create

Rhythm Engineers build their own 4-beat pattern, then teach it to a partner or the class.

Standards We Follow

Every Music Quests lesson is aligned to the National Core Arts Standards for Music (2014), which the Illinois Arts Learning Standards are built on. We follow them so teachers can drop Beat Bots straight into their curriculum and know exactly which skills students are practicing: reading, performing, creating, and responding to rhythm. Codes end in the grade (1–6) and a component letter, so pick the grade you teach.

Levels 1–3 (videos)

  • MU:Pr4.2.1a – steady beat
  • MU:Pr4.2.1b–5b – read and perform rhythm patterns (ta, ti-ti, rest)
  • MU:Pr6.1.1a–6a – perform with accuracy
  • MU:Re7.2.1a / 2a – describe how beat and rhythm are used

Level 4 (interactive app)

  • Note Mine (MU:Pr4.2.1a, MU:Pr4.3.1a–5a, MU:Pr6.1.1a–6a, MU:Re7.2.1a) – students clap a steady beat and rhythms in time with the music, adjust how they play (like playing softer in the piano rounds), and listen for how the beat drives the music.
  • Note Smasher (MU:Pr4.2.2b–5b, MU:Pr4.2.6b, MU:Pr4.2.4a / 5a, MU:Cr2.1.2b–5b) – students read the rhythms on each order ticket, including the new tika-tika, and use notation to show the rhythms they hear and build.
  • Packing Station (MU:Cr2.1.1b–5b, MU:Cr1.1.2a / 3a, MU:Pr4.2.1b–5b, MU:Pr6.1.1a–6a) – students make up their own rhythm patterns, write them in notation, and perform them back accurately.
  • Label Room (MU:Pr4.2.1b–5b, MU:Pr4.2.6b, MU:Re7.2.1a / 2a, MU:Pr5.1.2a / 4a / 5a) – students read 6-beat patterns, match what they see to what they hear, and check and fix mistakes in the rhythms.
  • Delivery Finale (MU:Pr6.1.1a–6a, MU:Pr6.1.1b–6b, MU:Pr5.1.2a / 4a / 5a) – students perform the rhythms they've learned accurately for the whole class, with a steady tempo and good energy, and fix their mistakes as they go.
